"That's not true," Glinda argued, her pace quickening. "We've been through so much together. We've supported each other, stood up for each other. You're the reason I found my voice, Elphaba."

As the stars began to twinkle in the night sky, Elphaba turned and walked away, leaving Glinda standing alone by the lake. The distance between them seemed to grow wider with each step Elphaba took, a physical manifestation of the schism that had finally and irrevocably opened between them.

"Elphaba, we need to talk," Glinda said, her voice light as a breeze but carrying the weight of impending doom.
